Cookie Policy
Which cookies Midcrowd sets and what each one does.
Version 0.4.1-draft · Effective
Essential cookies
The cookies in this section are strictly necessary — each exists so a feature you asked for works, not so anyone can be measured. They are set whether or not you accept measurement. The two cookies that are NOT necessary are listed separately under Analytics and marketing, and neither is set unless you accept.
- mc_session — keeps you signed in. HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite=Lax, and scoped to midcrowd.com exactly so it is never sent to a subscriber site. It lasts for the length of your session.
- mc_locale — remembers which of the four published languages you chose, for up to a year.
- mc_active_org and mc_active_site — remember which organization and which website your dashboard is showing, so the screen you left is the screen you come back to.
- mc_new_site and mc_onboarding — short-lived, set only while you are creating a website, so that signing in halfway through does not lose what you had entered.
- mc_customer_session — set on a subscriber's own website, not on midcrowd.com, when a shopper signs in to see their orders.
Storage on subscriber shops
A shop built on Midcrowd keeps your basket in your own browser's local storage, on that shop's address. It holds product identifiers and quantities only — never a price, which is always recalculated on the server — and it is not a cookie, is never sent to us, and is cleared when you clear site data.
Analytics and marketing
On midcrowd.com we use one measurement provider, Google, for two purposes: Google Analytics, to understand how this site is used, and Google Ads conversion measurement, to know which adverts lead to a subscription. Both run through a single Google tag and both are off until you accept.
At the date of this version the Google tag is switched off on this site altogether: it is not loaded even for visitors who accept, because the advertising account it reports to is still being corrected. Accepting today therefore sets only the two Midcrowd cookies described below and sends nothing to Google. This page will be re-dated when the tag is switched on.
Nothing is loaded before you answer. The tag is not placed on the page, and no request reaches Google, until the consent cookie records that you agreed — this is enforced on the server, when the page is built, not by a script that runs afterwards. If you decline, the tag is never added, on that visit or any later one. You can change your mind by clearing this site's cookies.
If you accept, Google sets its own measurement cookies, and Midcrowd sets two of its own: one recording your answer, and one recording the advertising click that brought you here (a Google click identifier and any campaign parameters) so a subscription can be attributed to the advert that led to it. Neither is set before you accept.
- mc_measurement_consent — records your answer, so you are not asked again. Six months. This one is set whichever way you answer, because a refusal has to be remembered to be honoured.
- mc_attribution — set only if you accept, and only if you arrived from an advert. Holds the Google click identifier and any campaign parameters from the link you followed, for 90 days, so a subscription can be attributed to the advert that led to it. It records the first advert that brought you and is never overwritten.
On the websites Midcrowd builds and serves for its subscribers there is still no analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind, and no third-party tag or pixel on any page. That has not changed and is not part of what you are being asked about here.
Managing cookies
Your browser can block or delete cookies for any site, usually under Privacy or Site settings. Blocking the ones listed above will sign you out and may stop parts of the dashboard working, because each of them is doing a job you asked for.
